and four girls. However, we have found evidence of, we believe, of six males;
probable firm evidence of two females with both questionable placement as well
as one male.

Sarah (Calcough) (Sary) Colclough

Sarah Colclough, whose family was prominrnt not only in Virginia but also in England.
The family qwned and operated ships which carried passengers and freight
between the American colonies and England. They were also licensed to take over
ships which traded with the colonies without oermission from England.

some say she was born 1720 Charles Co. maryland


Jonathan Kidwell

In Revolutionary War as a skilled maker of ammunition boxes; two of their
children born in Charles Co.,MD.;then they went into Fairfax Co., VA; by 1781
they were in Salisbury, Rowan Co.,NC. where two of their children were born.

Elijah Kidwell

Betsy Kidwell

(Christ Church Episcopal Records, Alexandria, VA; Mrs. Stanley A. Arthur Jr's
ltr. dtd. 21 Aug 1987; she and Rebecca listed as borders in the home of Elijah
Kidwell in 1799 Alexandria Census - probably sistres of Elijah; (needs more
research to verify).
Need marriage place & Husbands Info.


Joshua Kidwell

One record said born in Ireland & came to America after Revolutionary War which
was incorrect as he is found in War as a Private from NC.; (Priscilla Kidwell,
op. cit., p. 1,3, and 5; H. Kidwell, op. cit., p. 8; H. Kidwell ltr.dtd. 25 Mar
1987; D.A.R. #472167, Elizabeth M. Reynolds, 112 Grove S., Greeneville, TN dtd.
Feb 1961 through his 1st son, Elijah J.; Colonial Records, Vol. 22, p. 7, 15,
and 711; and ltr. from Wales to H. Kidwell dtd. Feb 1980.

Elisha Kidwell

Was in Revolutionary War and enlisted 7 May 1779 as a private in Cole's North
Carolina troops and served with them; believed he may have been the son whom
Priscilla Kidwell referred to as the "brother of Joshua and Joshia" killed
whilee fighting the Indians at Lookout Mountain; have no records pertaining to
him after he was presumed killed. Questionable placement in this family- more
research strongly suggested.(H. Kidwell, op. cit., p.8).


Rebecca Kidwell

Died at the age of 80.; it is believed that she & her sister, Betsy, were
boarders in the home of their brother, Elijah, when the 1799 Alexandria Census
was made; (Mrs. Stanley H.Arthur Jr. ltr. dtd. 21 Aug 1987; And Christ Church
Episcopal Records, Alexandria). More research needs to be done.


Charles Kidwell

Charles seemed to be unsettled after the children were born since he moved to
different regions without his wife, Dorcas; in Revolutionary War in NC.(no
dates given); (H. Kidwell, op. cit., p. 8; Priscilla Kidwell, op. cut., p. 3)
Probably firm but research should verify.
Charles Kidwell listed in the 1810 census, Grainger Co., TN. No township listed
also has the date TX1805 (I would think this might be a tax record.
Died maybe in Grainger co. tennessee or Franklin Co. Indiana


Joshia Kidwell

m. Mary (Polly) Claxton in 1795; he was in War of 1812 as a Private in Fourth
Regiment of Bagley's East Tennessee Militia; after his death, she may have
married again to John Estes. (Priscilla Kidwell, op. cit., p. 108).
