married Jane _________ about 1745, in a neighboring parish, as there are no record of this action in his parish. Robert had an older sister MARY that was baptized Aug. 27, 1717 and a younger brother THOMAS, baptized Sept 14, 1720. William Esgar or Isgar

The death and Burial date of William Isgar/Esgar was reported to Jack Esgar in a letter he received on October 12, 1976 from William Tuckey, Vicar at East Brent, Highbridge, Somerset, England. Wm. Tuckey also reported that the church baptismal records show that Wm. and May Isgar's daughter Mary, was baptized, Mary Isgar, Aug 27,1717 and their son Robert was baptised, Robert Isgar, Jan 5 1718 and their son Thomas, was baptised, Thomas Isgar, Sept. 14, 1720, and no record in this
parish, of William marrying May. Tuckey surmises that Wm. and May were married in May's home parish, wherever that may be.

Without further research, I will record William's surname and his posterity surnames as ESGAR. This will coincide with what is on William's tombstone.

At this writing, I have did no research on Mary or Thomas as they are not direct line relatives. I hope to do some researching on May, someday though, as she is my ggggg grandmother. 6th generation.

Mary Edwards

Jack Esgar reports thru Wm Tuckey, Vicar at East Brent, Highbridge, Somerset, England that the records show that Mary, a daughter of William and May Isgar, was baptised, Mary Isgar on August 27, 1717.

Mary's birth data has been assumed to be about the same year as William, her spouse. Wm Tuckey surmises that Wm and May, were married in May's home parish.

My comments are: There were a number of people living in this area that spelled their surname Isgar and when an Esgar appeared to be christened, the recording clerk, changed the spelling of Esgar to Isgar, thinking someone had made a misstake in the spelling of the surname.

The proceding information written be Robert Esgar (dob 1909) and edited by Clayton Esgar, the following information recieved by Clayton Esgar summer 2005.
